Abstract
By reference to the culinary culture in Iran, the meaning and role of food and eating in Iranian cinema is analyzed. Looking at food in Ganj-e Gharoon (1965) as an example of
the pre-Revolutionary Iranian cinema, this article explores food as part of the narrative of Iranian films. The author demonstrates and deciphers the significance of food in post-Revolutionary Iranian cinema as a symbol of love, honor and resistance for the feminine protagonist in the works of Dariush Mehrjui, Kambuzia Partovi, and Ali Rafiee.
