Abstract


In this essay Evangelos Venetis exlores the formation of the Greek Community of Tehran during World War II and its importance for contemporary Greek-Iranian relations. After the end of the war, he explains that the Greek community was heavily integrated into mainstream Iranian society, retaining distinctive characteristics, with its own educational and cultural institutions and outlets, a process that continued until 1979.
